Welcome Address

GBS Jahrestagung

23.– 25. September, Mannheim

On behalf of the German Society for Biological Radiation Research (DeGBS) we are pleased to invite you to the 22nd Annual Meeting of the DeGBS, 23rd-25th September in Mannheim.

The DeGBS Meetings focus on mechanisms of biological effects of ionizing and non-ionizing radiation ranging from the induction and repair of DNA damage over radiation responses of cells and tissues to applications in radiation protection and radiotherapy. As in previous years, the program will start with a Young Investigators’ Session and will continue with four scientific sessions, each including a keynote lecture, proffered papers, and a poster viewing session. The keynote lectures will present the scientific background and give an overview of current developments in each field. Oral presentations will be selected based on the evaluation of submitted abstracts. The poster sessions will provide ample time for personal interactions and discussion of novel data. Prizes for the best poster in each session will be awarded to highlight excellent work. A limited number of student travel grants are available.

Mannheim is centrally located with excellent train connections including Frankfurt am Main international airport. The venue of the 22nd DeGBS Annual Meeting 2019 is the lecture hall “Alte Brauerei” close to the Universitätsmedizin Mannheim on the banks of the river Neckar. It is easily reached by tram and is in walking distance from the city centre and hotels.

We warmly invite submission of abstracts on biological radiation research and encourage contributions also on biophysics and biologically oriented medical physics. The main topics include:

  • Basic Mechanisms in Radiation Biophysics and DNA Repair
  • DNA Damage Response, Cell Signaling, Immune Effects
  • Translational Radiobiology, Modulation of Radiosensitivity, Biomarkers
  • Radiobiology of UV and High-LET Radiation, and Novel Modalities (e.g. Grid Therapy or Very Large Fraction Sizes as in SRS, SBRT, IORT)

We hope that you will contribute to making this an exciting meeting as in the previous years and look forward to seeing you this September in Mannheim.

On behalf of the local organizers and the DeGBS
